Your High School May Begin Tracking Your College and Work Performance
The government has instituted a "Race to the Top" fund competition for high schools in an attempt to encourage innovation in education. Participating states will adopt international benchmark standards for education, focus on turning around lowest-achieving schools, and create a long-term tracking system for its students to gauge how effective the teaching is.
This means that if you're a high school student in one of the participating "Race to the Top" states, your school may begin keeping an eye on how you're performing in college and the workplace.
College grades/G.P.A will be one of the easiest indicators for your high school to track. Make sure that you're applying yourself and doing the best you can. When you're searching for jobs right out of college with little true work experience under your belt, employers will most likely view your academic record as a reflection of your work ethic.
Participating states will institute high school benchmarks and standards that focus more on preparing students for long-term success in college and the workplace. High schools will focus on their college enrollment rate and "college proficiency" rate (the speed with which graduates complete a year of college-level coursework).
It's more important than ever that you take your post-secondary education seriously and that you create a solid plan for your future. Make your high school proud!
