Saving on Holiday Gifts

The "season of giving" could just as easily be called the "season of spending." It's fairly easy to get caught up in the gift-giving frenzy, especially when you factor in friends and extended family.

Don't Waste Money

Buying holiday gifts for your friends and family can get expensive.

Here are some tips for how to avoid overspending so you can stay within your gift budget.

Follow these tips during this holiday season to help curb your spending but still give gifts that show you care.

Homemade Cards & GiftsHallmark and other cards can cost as much as $4-5 each nowadays. Your family and friends might truly appreciate a sentimental card more than a funny one.

The same goes for homemade gifts. A letter of appreciation or a collage of pictures goes a long way; it shows that you put time and effort into your gift but you've saved money at the same time.

You Don't Have to Buy Big BrandsHow many people do you know who own "knock-off" purses, sunglasses or clothing?
If a gift still looks great and functions well, does it really matter what the label on it says?

Check out outlet malls and stores that specialize in off-price merchandise (think 'TJ Maxx') for great deals.

Shop Around for Discounts Always give yourself enough time to shop around if you feel like you can find a better deal. Sort through ads to find the diamonds in the rough.

And always (ALWAYS) search for discounts when you're shopping online!
