How to Relax – 5 Tips to Reduce Your Stress

Become aware of what stresses you - and how you react.

Make it a point to keep track of how you're feeling throughout the day. Are you nervous? Upset about anything? Anything bothering you? Your goal is to start tracking how different events in your life change you mentally and/or physically.

Believe that events will get better.

You can't always avoid bad events from happening, but you can control how you react to them.  It's important to realize that - no matter what you're going through -- these events will pass. And the stress you feel will eventually pass. Focus on the positive - and that things will get better.

Start an exercise routine.

One big way you can reduce the intensity of a stressful situation is to keep active in an exercise routine. You see, through exercise you can help eliminate built up tension, which will help your body feel better. And it will help your mind focus on working out - rather than the problem you may be dealing with at the moment.

Eat Nutritious Meals.

Sometimes stressful events mean that you can't continue your normal activities. And this can cause you to stress out even more. During these times, it's important to eat balanced meals. In fact, it's during times like this that you want to especially avoid junk foods and caffeinated beverages. Eat healthy foods that are well-balanced to keep your mind and body feeling healthy.

Practice Deep Breathing.

One key to reducing stress is too take time throughout the day to practice deep breathing exercises. There are many books and websites that discuss deep breathing techniques -- and the value in reducing stress and anxiety. Learn one or two different ways to practice deep breathing -- and make it goal to practice at least three times a day: once in the morning, during lunch, and before bed.
