Financial Aid 101: Your Questions Answered
Some students feel like they can't attend college because they can't afford it.
And what they don't realize is that there are many ways to finance their education. In fact, most students get financial aid, and the key is just knowing what type of financial aid to ask for.
There is financial aid available for those who qualify-- and we'll help you find it.
Here are some common ways that students find funding for their education:
Grants for Students
You may have never considered looking for a grant, but this is the first place you should look. Grants are like loans -- but they never need to be repaid. It's essentially free money that you can use to pay for your schooling. Check with an Everest Student Finance Planner to find out if you qualify for any grants.
Student Scholarships
A lot of students mistakenly think that scholarships are only for "perfect" students --and that's simply not the case. There are literally thousands of scholarships available for every type of student. And can be based on your age, gender, ethnicity, and type of education you're pursuing. Find out which ones you qualify for and start submitting your applications.
Federal Stafford Loans
The Stafford loan is one of the most popular ways students receive funding for school. This loan is available to qualified students at accredited schools. The reason why many students like the Stafford loan is that it is subsidized throughout your time in school. This means that no interest is added to your loan balance while you're in school. And you don't need to make payments back until 6 months after graduation.
Federal PLUS Loans
The Federal PLUS Loans are available to the parents of students in school. These loans can finance the full cost of a student's college education. Qualification for this loan requires that the parents have good credit. And there is no demonstration of financial need required to obtain this loan.
Federal Perkins Loans
The Perkins loan is a low-interest federal loan made to students with an exceptional financial need. Talk with an Everest Student Finance Planner to find out if you qualify for one of these loans.
